Rev. George Hay was born at Prestonpans, Scotland in 1843 and educated at Edinburgh University before migrating to Victoria in 1860. In 1871 he gained a Master of Arts and three years later was ordained into the Presbyterian ministry and at the time of his death at his daughter’s home at Durham Street, Ballarat at the age of 85 was described as “one of the oldest Presbyterian ministers in Victoria”. He had three daughters and three sons.
